Part of the federal government’s AI strategy is strengthening US AI exports. To this end, the administration issued EO 14320, which promised the creation of an American AI Exports Program. This program will support companies in developing “full-stack” AI export packages, which means that these packages will include all aspects of an AI system, including hardware, software, and data services. To start the program off, the Department of Commerce issued a Request for Information (RFI). A recent Steptoe blog discusses the RFI and the next steps the government will take after the RFI closes:
“Following closure of the RFI comment period, the Department of Commerce will issue a call for proposals from industry-led consortia to establish full-stack AI export packages. These proposals will be evaluated by the Secretary of Commerce in consultation with the Secretary of State, the Secretary of War, the Secretary of Energy, and the Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy. Proposals approved through the Program will receive federal support, including through the interagency Economic Diplomacy Action Group for qualified export opportunities. “
The RFI ends on November 28, 2025. It seeks a variety of information related to full-stack AI systems. The creation of the American AI Export Program underlies the current administration’s efforts to support AI development in the US. While federal AI regulation may not be a priority, American AI growth is. Companies operating in the AI sector should take note of such programs and ensure that they are seizing available opportunities.
